
When was the last time you had a conversation with a number (on a piece of paper, for instance), and it replied to you saying, "Yes, I agree?" Ridiculous! Only a conscious, sentient being can "agree to" something. If one number matches another, why wouldn't you just say it MATCHES??? Or, if you really need to increase your pretentiousness by using the word "agrees", then learn some English grammar and say "this agrees WITH that". But "agrees to" has become ingrained in accountant vocabulary, and even if I convince a fellow accountant that they should say "with", the amount of mental effort required to change that habit is not likely to be expended by most.
